There was no way to adjust the picture to put more light on the screen without making the picture look washed out. Could not enjoy the movie due to being distracted by the poor presentation.

Their not supposed to be any good and were made for one reason only: Money. Of course history tells us that remakes in the horror genre can work.
In Fright Night was ready for the remake treatment and its legion of fans were up in arms. Now as another rule you're not allowed to like a remake better than the original, how dare they?
In this case I found the remake to be a lot better than the 85 original and that's coming from someone who dearly loves 80s horror movies.
This is a clever remake in that it takes the plot from the original and then leaves it there. The much missed Anton Yelchin plays Charley Brewster this time, but it's his nerdy friend who spots that his next door neighbour is a member of the undead.
Colin Farrell puts in a brilliant performance as the no nonsense vampire who is relentless in his thirst for blood. David Tennant practically steals the show as Peter Vincent, now not a TV host but a Las Vegas magician who collects weird memorabila and drinks all day from his luxury Vegas apartment.
This is such a fun movie with lots of in jokes, Tennant is just brilliant as the eccentric magician who of course doesn't believe Yelchin's claims that he is indeed fighting a vampire.
Blink and you'll miss Lisa Loeb's funny cameo. This is a hugely rewarding movie that will most probably never get the overall praise it deserves because it will always have that attachment of 'remake' thrown at it, but director Craig Gillespie did the rarest of things and brought in a different identity.
A truly unique 'remake'. First I remember the original with a lot of affection, second I'm pretty cynical about most remakes, so I'm not obviously going to be a big fan of this.
However, strangely I cannot deny I was looking forward to seeing this, the preview looked fun, and well it's not exactly as though the original was sacred ground.
So was I disappointed? The film is great fun, my initial slight concerns with he lack of a growing emerging plot line disappeared as the pure pleasure of the film took over.
It's a very easy, very enjoyable film, some small jump moments but overwhelmingingly just fun. Farrell is excellent as the vamp next door, as are Yelchin and Poots as the teens in trouble, and whilst he might redefine the word hammy here Tennant is pitch perfect in the role of Peter Vincent.
Leave your inhibitions and pretensions at home, just relax and give into the fun, this film is well worth a couple of hours of your life, in fact ai'm kind of tempted to watch it again soon.

This one is of course the new version of Fright Night, it sort of follows some of the basic story of the original movie, but somehow I feel fails in the humour that was in the 's movie, in this one David Tennant is the star, he at least is rather funny and his character is rather unexpectedly weak and eccentric , and flawed just as the one played by Roddy McDowell in the original film.
If you are a Vampire Film fan, and moreover a fan of ones that are comic you most likely will like this film , if you are not it is possible you won't enjoy this film, Perhaps if you are still undecided perhaps take a preview of it on-line.

I have always loved the original so I was a little apprehensive checking this one out but I am glad I did, it remains true to the originals vibe, a little quirky, a little corny and all fun One of the biggest changes is a much younger Peter Vincent, he is a modern day celeb male diva think of Russel Brand charactors I actually quite liked this change, this movie is good enough to stand alone to the newer generation or sit right next to your copy of the original, it is entertaining, refreshing and fun and does justice to the original.
It doesn't over use the 3D effect and there for has more impact when put to full effect used to make you jump, and in my opinion the vampire exploding in sunlight in 3d is the best death scene I have seen in the last year, truely an awesome moment.
I really would have liked to have given the rating of 3 and a half stars, so gave it 4 because it deserves more than a 3. Back to top.

He looked and played well, the part of an older, broke, washed up actor who was barely hanging on to a career that should've been over years ago but somehow was able to keep his cheap and campy t.
In the remake that was all changed. William Ragsdale, who played the original Brewster, and played it well, had an almost sweet and innocent demeanor about himself.
Yelchin's portrayal of the same character went deeper but in a subtle way. He was more cerebral and dare I say "sexier? In the original movie "Ed" was played by Stephen Geoffreys.
No offense to Plasse, but Geoffreys' portrayal was somehow better. There's a very distinct difference in how the vampire character "Jerry Dandridge" is played by Colin Farrell in this film and how it was played by Chris Sarandon in the original.
Sarandon has a cameo in this remake which is delightful. Sarandon's character in the original version had a male companion and there were hints of homo-eroticism, whereas Farrell's character was much more masculine, dark and vicious.
Imogene Poots ,who couldn't have been more perfectly casted, plays the part of Charlie's love interest "Amy". Toni Collette, one of my favorite actors, plays Brewster's mother.
Collette brought something more to that character than the original actor Dorothy Fielding had and no offense to Fielding it's just that she had less screen time than Collette's version.
There are marked differences in the two story lines but they don't conflict because this remake seems to be more of a continuation of the story than it does a remake, which is odd, but maybe that's because each version is played so well.
In a short period of time this movie really grew on me. I very highly recommend this "Vampire Flick" remake!!
One person found this helpful. This was such a fun movie! Honestly, my friend and I were watching it purely for Colin Farrell and expected a really cheesy B-movie.
While it did get there eventually, for the most part this movie was surprisingly good and absolutely hilarious! Even better, Colin was -without question- the sexiest vampire I've ever seen in my life.
Good god- I've seen this movie at least three times this week alone because I just can't get enough. This review is for the 3D blu-ray, NOT the movie - which gets a 4 star review.
Already had the BD and thought I would get the 3D one for my new t. Don't do it - the picture is too dark to enjoy the 3D effects - they looked good in the theater because of the amount of light thrown by the projector.
