I wish I would have cause I now love the Addams family!!! This can be watched by any age, even young kids would love this series.
Everyone can watch this and everyone will find it funny. I watched the whole series then went and watched it again and laughed even more!
You can't catch everything just watching it once. Only thing I hated about this series is that they only made three seasons worth.
You can watch this with kids, teenagers, moms dads, grandparents, etc. No cursing, no sex, just a really funny series that everyone will find funny.
I think I like the second dvd the best, then the third. The first season is funny but they get better and funnier as they go on.
Fabulous family classic! The Adams family is a quirky, off beat family that rubs the neighborhood the wrong way with their pet lion, cemetery, and virtually non-verbal Butler, Lurch.
Their crazy ideas and zany antics lead to all kinds of hilarious and unpredictable situations. TV in the 50s and early 60s was more varied and creative than it often is remembered as having been - think of Playhouse 90, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, One Step Beyond, or the Twilight Zone.
There was and is nothing wrong with shows of this type, except for the fact that these were the only images of domesticity presented in that format.
This, like so much else, changed in the mids, and The Addams Family was a part of the change. I loved the show from the first episode, which aired on September 18, , and, incidentally, I was smitten by the lady in black played by Carolyn Jones the same night.
The Addams family poked fun at the standard TV family as much by its resemblance to one as by its deviance. Like the Charles Addams cartoons on which it was based, The Addams Family stood ordinary conventions on their heads; typical was an early episode in which Morticia finds horrors!
These people were not merely oddballs, they were seriously dangerous, with children who literally played with dynamite, but were utterly likable for all that.
They defied social norms along with all the busybody regulations property, weapons, safety, and the like to which most of us long have been resigned.
The sensual interaction of Morticia and Gomez differed enormously from the behavior other sitcom couples as well.
Actually, it still does differ; contemporary shows have much more randy jokes, but that is far from the same thing.
The first season on DVD arrived in the mail this week. I've been enjoying it as much as when I was eleven, and I still have a crush on the long haired beauty with the lovely gray pallor.
Of course 3 days later - they did. It is well organized, with no commercials or other junk to get in the way of your enjoyment, but I do wish they were more clear on the chronology this is the pilot, this is episode 1,2, I was concerned at first when I first bought it, as it was entitled "Volume One" but gave no reference as to how many volumes there would be, or what the total number of episodes would appear on each disc.
When I finally got the DVD s I was overjoyed to realize that there were in fact 22 episodes and several bonus features these were not included in the original Amazon listing.
This really is a must-own classic television series that whose magic has not been captured in the attempted spin-offs and recreations.
Arthur Hiller is a genius. I was fortunate enough to meet him when I was eleven. I only wish I knew enough to tell him so then. You really do get a lot of episodes for the money.
I hope Volume Two is as good as this. The Addams family TV show is one of the best Halloween themed shows out there It's not scary and it's very amusing at times The amnesia episode is one of the best on this boxset.

The jokes do not feel aged. My kids enjoy it the same as I once did decades ago. I have a bilingual version English and Spanish. I have never experienced this mysterious phenomenon with any other disk I own.

The characters are also quite similar to the original, with Wednesday being the older sibling fun fact Wednesday WAS the older sibling originally, and the exception was the TV show, though the original girl cast was 13 years old.
Also, they gave Pugsley some character. In the early s movies, he was overshadowed by a very dark and morbid Christiana Ricci as Wednesday, and he fell into a near secondary character next to her strong dark demeanor.
In this movie he has his own personality and storyline. Gomez and Morticia were pretty good, more gothic and dark than passinate as in the past renditions, and they kept up the morbidity and sadism with the medivieval torture instruments and swords they're known for, I liked that, and they looked more like the Chas Addams characters, he being short and kind of greasy while she tall and very pale.
Morticia did have the Carolyn Jones' walk as well in the tight dress. Fester was the funniest character, in my opinion, with his nonchalant attitude towards injuries and explosions.
The main characters were actually pretty good. Grandma was an crazy old hag, Lurch an asylum escapee turned butler. My issue was the plot.
It's always the same, with the Addams eventually alienating the neighbors for one reason or another, but in this case the new neighbor was so happy and suburban most people would throw up daily living there.
They pitted an extremely white bread neighborhood run by a rich reality HGTV type star with a dark, misunderstood family to once again show prejudice and ignorace against those that are different.
In the TV the visitors were funny when the encountered the Addams's. This just seemed recycled with people just running off scared at first sight opposed to actually visiting the home.
Wednesday remember the summer camp in the sequel? It gets old. At least Pugsley had a more original subplot. I would have liked to have seen some of the other family members from the Tv show at the family reunion, such as Morticia's sister ophelia.
They were kind of just goofy side characters but they could have had a lot of fun with the extended family, as they did in the film.
However, the one thing I really hated about this movie was the ending spoiler alert. I simply hated the ending of this movie and how they pied up the whole plot with a goofy, unrealistic "feel good" kind of weird and pointless truce where everyone just seemed to have a collective epiphany and played nice.
It was just No one was scared anymore, no unesiness, just everyone coming together in some sort of peace love harmony dribble that was pointless.
Finally, my favorite part was the spirit of the house. He hated the Addams and was just dumbfounded by them but the interactions with the spirit and the family were great.
I recommend the movie for the scenes, but knocked some stars off for the plot. Digital copy only usable on iTunes. Code would not work on Vudu or Movies Anywhere.

I was very excited to discover that an animated movie was being made using Charle's original cartoon designs, but I am very disappointed in final product made for sale.
The product literature is unclear. Instead of the typical Movies Anywhere code the replacement for UltraViolet that most movies ship with, it comes with a proprietary iTunes code.
This is of no use to me. I like having the disc for the special features - and internet outages, but I like being able to view the steamed version wherever I have a smart TV or device.

I also let the kids view the streamed version. The code is half the value of the movie package for me. I cannot use the iTunes code and have no intention of buying an Apple product solely for that reason.

But decades latter we have a broadway musical and two fairly recent movies to prove that it is still relevant and unique.
This is truly a American classic! Nearly anyone over the age of 50 will recogize the finger snapping music and know at least somethine about Thing, Lurch, Cousin IT, Uncle Fester, etc.
And, of course, we also have the orginial comics from an earlier time! The pictue was, if anything, better than originally shown - it's hard to tell because of the differences in technology, etc.
Sound was as good as it's going to be. Acting is 'hammy' just as I remembered. The phase, 'you rang' has entered the publics consciousness - in fact I still hear it from time to time today almost 50 years after it was 1st used on the TV show.
This a great show at a very good price - nearly everyone should buy or get this at their local library! I would rate this a very high 9. The second and third season is much funnier but this one isn't bad.
